This Privacy Policy describes how Rentaverse LLC, a Vermont limited liability company (“Rentaverse,” “we,” “us,” or “our“), collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal data when you use our peer-to-peer rental marketplace web application (the “Platform”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently and securely. Capitalized terms used, but not defined, in this Privacy Policy shall have the meanings given to such capitalized terms in our Terms of Service, which can be found here.

  1. Introduction

This policy applies to all Users of the Rentaverse Platform, including Owners and Renters, and explains our practices concerning the information we collect from you or that you provide to us. Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will treat it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your choice is not to use the Platform. By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to this privacy policy. This policy may change from time to time (see Section 12 (Changes to this Privacy Policy)). Your continued use of the Platform after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check the policy periodically for updates.

  1. Information We Collect

We collect various types of information to provide and improve our services, including:

2.1. Information You Provide to Us: 

(a) Account Registration Data: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, physical address and profile photo. 

(b) Profile Information: If you are an Owner, you may provide descriptions and photos of your Rental Items. If you are a Renter, you may provide information relevant to your rental history or preferences. 

(c) Payment Information: While Rentaverse does not store full payment card details, our third-party payment processor collects payment information (e.g., credit card number, billing address, etc.) to process transactions. The collection of such payment information is governed by our third-party payment processor’s Privacy Policy, which can be found here. We receive limited information from the processor, such as a tokenized version of your payment method, to confirm payment status. 

(d) Communications: We collect information from your communications on the Platform, including messages exchanged between Owners and Renters, and any communications with our customer support. 

(e) Verification Documents: For liability, security, or fraud prevention purposes, we may, at our discretion, request and collect copies of identification documents (e.g., driver’s license, government ID, etc.). Any such documents will be handled securely and retained only as necessary for these purposes. 

2.2. Information Collected Automatically: 

(a) Usage Data: We automatically collect information about your interactions with the Platform, such as your device IP address, browser type, operating system, pages viewed, features used, time spent on the Platform, and referring URLs.

(b) Location Data: Through your device’s location settings or browser settings to facilitate item matching and rental coordination (e.g., showing nearby items). You can enable or disable location services through your device settings. 

(c) Cookies and Tracking Technologies: We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies (e.g., web beacons, pixels) to track activity on our Platform and hold certain information. These technologies are used for: 

(i)Personalization: Remembering your preferences and settings. 

(ii) Analytics: Understanding how Users interact with the Platform to improve its functionality and user experience. 

(iii) Security: Detecting and preventing fraudulent activity. 

(iv) Advertising: Delivering relevant advertisements (if applicable and with your consent). 

You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings. 

  1. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for various purposes, including:

  • To Provide and Facilitate Services: To enable Owners to list items and Renters to book them, process payments via third-party processors, and manage rental transactions.
  • To Communicate with Users: To send service-related messages (e.g., booking confirmations, updates, security alerts), respond to customer support inquiries, and facilitate communication between Owners and Renters.
  • To Improve and Personalize the Platform: To analyze usage trends, troubleshoot issues, develop new features, and customize your experience on the Platform.
  • Marketing and Promotions: To send you promotional communications about Rentaverse’s services, offers, and updates, if you have opted in to receive such communications. You can opt out at any time.
  • Security and Fraud Prevention: To protect the Platform and our Users from fraud, unauthorized access, and other illegal activities.
  • Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, and governmental requests, including those specific to Vermont or the United States.
  1. How We Share Your Information

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Between Owners & Renters: To facilitate a confirmed rental, we share limited necessary information between the Owner and Renter (e.g., name, contact details, general location for pickup/return instructions). This sharing occurs only after a booking is confirmed.
  • Third-Party Service Providers: We engage trusted third-party service providers to perform functions on our behalf, such as:
    • Payment Processors: To handle all payment transactions.
    • Cloud Hosting Providers: To store and manage our data.
    • Analytics Providers: To help us understand Platform usage.
    • Marketing Services: To assist with our marketing efforts, subject to your consent where required.
    • Identity Verification Services: If we implement identity verification features. These providers have access to personal information only to perform their functions and are obligated contractually not to disclose or use it for other purposes.
  • Legal Compliance and Law Enforcement: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:
    • Comply with a legal obligation (e.g., subpoena, court order, or governmental request).
    • Protect and defend the rights or property of Rentaverse.
    • Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Platform.
    • Protect the personal safety of Users of the Platform or the public.
    • Protect against legal liability.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or bankruptcy, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your personal information becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.
  • Aggregated/Anonymized Data: We may share aggregated or anonymized data (which cannot be used to identify you personally) with third parties for research, analytics, marketing, and other business purposes.
  1. Your State Privacy Rights

State consumer privacy laws may provide their residents with additional rights regarding our use of their personal information.

 

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia provide (now or in the future) their state residents with rights to:

 

  • Confirm whether we process their personal information.
  • Access and delete certain personal information.
  • Correct inaccuracies in their personal information, taking into account the information’s nature processing purpose (excluding Iowa and Utah).
  • Data portability.
  • Opt-out of personal data processing for:
    • targeted advertising (excluding Iowa);
    • sales; or
    • profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects (excluding Iowa and Utah).
  • Either limit (opt-out of) or require consent to process sensitive personal data.

Nevada provides its residents with a limited right to opt-out of certain personal information sales. Residents who wish to exercise this sale opt-out rights may submit a request to this designated address: [email protected]. However, please know we do not currently sell data triggering that statute’s opt-out requirements.

  1. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services, comply with our legal obligations (such as tax and accounting requirements under Vermont and federal law), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. The criteria used to determine our retention periods include the length of time we have an ongoing relationship with you and provide services to you, whether there is a legal obligation to which we are subject, and whether retention is advisable in light of our legal position (such as in regard to applicable statutes of limitations, litigation or regulatory investigations). Once your data is no longer necessary for these purposes, we will delete or anonymize it in accordance with applicable laws and our data retention policies.

  1. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. These measures include, but are not limited to, encryption where appropriate (e.g., data in transit), access controls, secure coding practices, and internal data security policies. However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

  1. Your Choices & Rights

You have certain rights regarding your personal data, subject to local data protection laws. These may include:

  • Accessing/Updating Your Information: You can review and update most of your account information directly through your Platform profile settings.
  • Account Deletion: You may request the deletion of your account by contacting us at [email protected]. Please note that some information may be retained for legal or legitimate business purposes (e.g., transaction records for tax compliance, fraud prevention, dispute resolution) as outlined in our data retention policies.
  • Opting Out of Marketing Communications: You can opt out of receiving marketing emails from us by following the unsubscribe instructions in those emails or by contacting us directly. You may still receive transactional or service-related communications.
  • Cookie Preferences: Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you prefer, you can usually choose to set your browser to remove or reject browser cookies. You can also manage your preferences for non-essential cookies through our cookie consent banner. Please note that if you choose to remove or reject cookies, this could affect the availability and functionality of our Platform.
  • Location Data: You can typically control location data sharing through the settings on your device or within your web browser.
  1. Children’s Privacy

The Rentaverse Platform is not intended for individuals under the age of 18, as stated in our Terms of Service. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child under 18 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to delete such information as quickly as possible.   1. International Data Transfers

Rentaverse is based in the United States and is initially focused on operations within Vermont and the United States. Your information will be processed and stored in the United States. If we expand operations and your data is processed outside of your country of residence, we will take appropriate measures to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable laws, which may include implementing Standard Contractual Clauses or relying on other legally provided mechanisms for transfers of data.

  1. Links to Third-Party Websites/Services

Our Platform may contain links to other websites or services not operated or controlled by Rentaverse (e.g., third-party payment processor). This Privacy Policy does not apply to such third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service before providing any information to or through them.

  1. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page, updating the “Effective Date” at the top, and/or by sending you an email or other notification as required by applicable law. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
